I called the nearest Cabelas to check if the B&P shells they sell online are available in store. I was told there is no way to "accurately track inventory over the phone." How about you look to see if they are there and tell me? It is about 75 miles, but their answer was for me to drive there and check myself.
I am not looking for 9mm or .22 shells for gosh sake. Just tell me if you have them in store. What bothers me most is he (salesman on the phone) probably knows the answer, off the top of his head, and can't tell me.
I would say I will just buy them from B&P online price be damned, but they are out of stock.

I think B&P has a new U.S distributor/importer, and they are in process of building up inventory. Got an email from them last week.

I'd call the store manager at Cabela's and let him know my opinion of the guy who took your call.

Hoof: I've found if you call the phone order line they can usually tell you if they are "in stock" in a particular store. HTH Jerry

Kari McCormick, who used to work for B&P USA is now with a new company and will be importing B&P shotshells. The company is Aerostar Global Logistics and her first shipments of shells are on the way. Email is: k.mccormick@aerostarglobal.com

I would bet Cabela's clerks are getting a little tired of all the calls as everyone scrambles around looking for short supply stuff.

They are a retailer, isn't that their job? Would anyone really accept this from other stores. "Yes I would like to buy something that you sell do you have any in stock?" "I can't tell you, just drive here and see for yourself."
I don't care if every other caller is some guy looking for .22 shells, they are making money hand over fist they can perform basic customer service.

I will try the email for B&P, thank you.

Rather than being a cynic, I'd hope that they avail themselves of some real-time inventory software, both for stores as well as on-line orders. It is a pleasure to do business with firms that operate in that manner, no back orders, no crossing of the fingers. See it, order it or answer the question about shelf inventory, no problem. And it is a lot less hassle for the seller, too ... no canceled orders. From the buyer's perspective, it frees up his available line of credit, if he operates in that manner. 'Just a thot', as WTS is prone to say.

I was at a Cabela's... once.

Right after they built the huge store in Dundee, I was passing by and in the market for a dog training collar.

The store had been open just a few months.

A very knowledgeable guy helped me select the correct product from a large selection. He spent about 20 minutes with me.

Took item up front to pay for it. There was ONE checkout open of the approximately 12 they had built. The line was 8 people deep.

So, I left.

I went home and ordered online from Gundog Supply. The same item was on my doorstep two days later - ten bucks cheaper and no sales tax.
