It's hard to guess without some sense of dimensions, but it looks to me like a slug for bore-lapping.

Looks like a gage to determine wear/erosion in a US Army Military rifle.

left hand twist. Must be for a Colt pistol if those are rifling marks.

Bryndon is correct, a button to push a shed jacket out of the barrel of a 1917 rifle. I think I still have one of these in a drawer.

yup, that is the interesting part, and I do believe
that it actually is for a Mauser, though it is certainly
not military.
