Sorry Terry, good guess but not my choice. This is a tough one, I only know of one (1) rifle today.

I seem to remember a catalog description that mentioned Italian Walnut, but can't remember where. MP, is the "catalog reference" a good guess?

Not sure about catalog but Italian walnut was used in ads.

No more guessing games, remember this is just the opinion of one person, me.

I think that not only are these one of the best made American custom sporters and at the same time to hardest to find are the ones marked "Owen Brothers".

Yup, I would like to own one. How about giving us a scan of the catalog reference?

Another opinion, what it says on the back answers many of the Owen questions that have bothered me for years. Look for it in Vol III ;-).

So, the pictured rifle is or was the property of Colonel Sheldon. And I assume that Paul Curtis also ended up with one. I don't know how many of Paul Curtis' Owen shotguns or rifles have surfaced, but I know one Owen shotgun of his sold at auction a short time ago, maybe two years. It was not identified as a Curtis shotgun by the auction house, but it was his gun. Michael, can you show us the back of that letter? Murphy

The pictured rifle has been in my collection for over thirty years, I have no idea who it was made for and has nothing to do with the Curtis letter.

Crossman wrote in F&S about a Owen which may be the same rifle in the letter, I just don't know at this time.

I do have a Sheldon rifle, the little Remington 12 that was Bob Owen's personal rifle.

I'll try to sort this out a little better later in the day.

I'm getting confused - what connection does Crossman have the letter? I guess Paul Curtis was shooting editor at F&S...who is Sheldon? How is Sheldon connected to Crossman? Is there something on the reverse of the letter?
