I was wondering who makes the new Stevens OU's. I've seen them at gun shows and they're decent looking guns for that kind of money. | | |

See what I mean!!! Imagine back in the early 80's walking into a black powder shop and seeing a bunch of plain jane Navy Arms or CVA long rifles that look like they were stocked in ply wood and seeing a long rifle that looks similar to that shotgun sitting right next to them!!! Hatfield's sold like hot cakes in Pennsylvania, being flinters, and every black powder shop near me had trouble keeping them in stock!!! Beautiful shotgun dbadcraig!!!
 All the best

Hello Amarillo Mike:
It turns out that I've found a 16 ga. 7-pin Hatfield London for sale right here in Montana. See Gunbroker Auction # 91736032. Between another recent purchase, and 15 April coming up, I can't make a move on it.

They also have a lightly used Kimber Valier 20 ga. for $2999, one of the best prices I've seen on these.

treblig & Mike-
Thanks for the kind words! That 20ga Hatfield is among my most prized firearms. At the time it was made, Ted Hatfield had bought and was living in the house I grew up in and as youth I used to spend hours in the Hatfield family sporting goods store---looking at motorcycles and guns.

GG, I think you'll find that there are two different versions of the Valier. The early ones were fairly heavy (for 20ga) guns with 3" chambers. The more recent ones are 2 3/4", and the weight is closer to what many people would like to see in a 20ga game gun. Writer friend had one of the early ones for field test. Showed it to me when we were hunting pheasants together, asked me what I thought. I told him it looked and seemed to handle pretty decent for a 12ga game gun. Then he told me it was a 20.
At $3,000, Valiers may sell. They won't sell very many at $5,000, because they're bumping heads with Spanish sidelocks with established track records.

I've got a couple of the percussion Hatfield Squirrel Rifles. A .50 and a .36. treblig is right on the mark about the barrel attachments having had one fail on the .50. I have won or placed high in several matches with the .50, the .36 is still a mystery!!
