Hi Gentlemen, a friend brought his gun for me to have a look at, he said he's at the end of his tether as when it's fired, he opens its, it ejects the spent shells but when he reloads, he has to hold the gun open as the mainspring closes the barrels just enough to stop you placing a shell into the lower barrel. Easy solution seems to hold the gun open but he says it's starting to annoy him.
I've removed the stock and it seems the hammers cock well before the end of the travel or drop of the barrels but on opening them fully, the hammer continue to move back (as far as I can see, unnecessarily ) and when left to their own devices, will move back to the sear which then lifts the barrels slightly under power of the mainsprings.
Everything seems fine and in the right places inside but short of shortening the cocking bars and removing metal from other parts I can't see past the problem. Has anyone else had issues with this ? I've serviced and repaired and couple of the same make but not seen this happen on those.
Any ideas ?

Tighten the forend so that it stiffens the gape .Check the rebound on the main springs . This is after all a common problem with OU's of this type .

The way that has worked for me is to shoot the gun often, the springs
that are working in unison holding the gun too far shut will set and with use,
the gun will stay more open and be easier to load.

Shoot 500 shells through the gun and see if that fixes the concern,
Always has for me. I like that part. Shooting is such fun

p.s. or you can get replacement springs (saving the original ones)
and cut 1/2 a coil off each, But the shooting is more fun

Thanks for the advice guys. Should be able to help him out now. I normally play with side by sides so not too familiar with the ones with the barrels on the wrong way.
