Ditto. I suppose I'd use something like Ballistol if I couldn't keep solvent off wood. A partial list of things I've used includes about all the "firearm" nitro solvents from Outers/Hoppes/Barnes/Birchwood/eieio, some aqueous solvents (Patch Out, Windex), Liquid Wrench, carb and brake cleaners, Kroil, CLP, Klenzoil, and assorted viscosities of motor oils and ATFs.
WD is ubiquitous and inexpensive. Unlike Ed's Red, I don't have to make it up myself. For wad and powder fouling it works as well as anything else. It is a decent preservative, but a terrible lube. So I'm careful to get it out before applying something to the ejectors, raceways, etc.
