I'm part way into remaking another leather Leg-O-Mutton gun case. The skeleton key lock is still 100% operable after 100 years; however, after removing the crud off of the lock, what was left of the original spotty brass plating also washed off the cast steel lock with the cleaning solvent and grim.

This lock secures the leather strap which holds the gun case lid down. I went on a Google search and so far I cannot locate a mfgr of this type of lock. All of the other metal fittings used are either brass or brass plated. Do any of you know a possible source for this type of brass plated lock.

GP -

A photo would help. I purchase all my hardware from Ohio Travel Bag Corp. Their catalog pictures 1,000s of items, all having to do with luggage in some way or another. Depends on whether the lock is US-made or British; former gives you a good chance for replacement or duplicate appearance & quality item; latter usually is too prohibitive pricewise after you pay duty, VAT, etc. KBM

British items for export are not charged VAT - so you can deduct 17.5% from the catalogue price.

Crossedchisles, thank you for the name of Harly Parlin. I've E-mailed photos to him.

I've also asked my friend, Rocketman, to post these lock photos on this thread for me - I don't have a Photobucket, etc account with anyone.

George, No I didn't get any PMs. There is something realy wrong with the PM system that Dave needs to address. When I send a PM it comes back to my message box and doesn't go to sender.
I will try to get some pic's and e-mail them to you.
