On putting 16 Barrels on the a 20 Action, if they measure up correctly I see no issue.
16 is not dead (I believe the statement was a joke) To shoot 16 as a primary gun you really need to reload for it. It has been my primary gauge since I was a kid and remains so. I shoot a 16 for 95% to 99% of my hunting. My back gun is a 16. It is only in the last two years I have put money into a 12 and that is only because it matched my 16.
The perfect wild bird gun is the one you shoot best. Gauge has little to do with it. A good gun is just that. I can find something good about every gauge, I just like 16 best.

I know my 16 gauge Ithaca at 6 lbs. 3 oz. was built on a 20 gauge frame. And a perfect weight for either a 16 or a 20 gauge double!! You got to love Ithaca!!! And just in case the worst happens, I went out and bought two sets of 20 gauge Gaugemates for it. I'm ready for anything.

Researcher, if I did what you did, I would be hospitalized for months. I'm still buying the $5.00 a box Dicks shells and throwing away as many empties as I can. I have 23 plus flats of 16 gauge in case you want to watch the obituaries. It will be under "Eightbore" in the Washington Compost. I hope "eightbore' is not under the politically incorrect words prohibited from obituaries.

I do not know why people spread lies about the 16 still being alive as a gauge? It is not. Face it, with the lack of shells the 16 is just as dead as some of the old rimfires. You do not think rimfire owners stocked piled ammo? It will all be shot up in another 100 years. Sell while you can. Smart owners are selling these old 16's, to unsuspecting buyers, so they can at least get a few dollars out of the 16's before word gets out that they are useless. I have been duped several times in the last year myself and am almost afraid to admit it. My last regret was a grade 2 NID with 28" barrels. Not a straight stock like I was hoping for but still a decent shooter none the less. Perhaps someone else will try to trick me again sooner or later and I will find what I was looking for. So if you have any old 16's my advise is to sell them for what ever you can get for them before the market crashes worse.

8bore, How on earth are you buying 16 ammo at Dick's for $5? In Minnesota Rem Gameloads are $9 a box. They also kick the snot out of me in my 6.5# guns. Regards, Jeff

I'll have to admit KY Jon is getting too close to the truth for comfort. For the occasional shooter/hunter the 16 gauge is just fine but for those that shoot a lot or those that hunt in remote areas and shoot a lot the 16 gauge is a handicap. But if you have a double why can't you just slip in some Gaugemates and make your double a 20 gauge? And then buy 20 gauge ammo, which you can find everywhere. But, today, for a guy to buy a repeater in 16 gauge, is suicidal.

I haven´t noticed that you there "behind big pond" have problem with 16 cal. shells. In europe this caliber is still very strong and common, mostly hunting purposes surely. Clay shot cartridges are a little tricky case but you could find them anyway.
