But for my damascus barreled Lefever am I not limited to using RST spreaders? If it wasn't such a rare and high condition gun I'd open the chokes but in this case that's not a viable option.

As far as I know the only factory load 20 ga low pressure spreader option to the RST is the Poly Wad "Double Wide". I think it's only available in 3/4 oz # 8 & you would need to determine the suitability with Damascus bbls. It's a spreader version of their "Vintager" load.
I have no experience with it or the RST 20 ga Spreader.
I have used the std Poly Wad 20 ga spreader in a tightly choked Merkel on quail with good success but never did any patterning with it.

No other spreader technology/technique comes close IME. Mike you gained a convert some time ago. I'm currently working on developing a biodegradable alternative to the spredR disc to be used in conjunction with fiber wads for use in areas where biodegradable components are required.

It is amazing how much the pattern size changed with a small amount of shot over the polywad! In my ignorance I would have expected the opposite result!

Terrific thread! Especially (but not limited to) Mike's patterns.
I have used spreaders for years and find them most effective on tight chokes, less so on more open chokes.
B&P used to provide a CIP-pressure spreader that they called "Dispersante" but unfortunately that's been discontinued. I have a few flats left and it's a pity they don't make it anymore.

Stan, Yep. Side by each, one after the other. One ounce of 8's (as I recall) through the same barrel of my 32" Fox at a measured 50 feet. Both barrels are .024". On second thought, I may have fired a few of the "standard" Polywad Spred-R loads to get that result since, IME, a void like that occurs about 1 in 8 times. But they were definitely shot in the same session, same barrel, same 50-foot distance. I haven't feared a 10-20 yd rabbit target since I started loading them.
