Can't find the book abt Dan Lafever in Doublegun Bookshop. Where can I get the book or any other publication that shows pictures of the various models that were offered by Lefever Arms and D.M. Lefever & Sons?

The book is "Uncle Dan Lefever Master Gunmaker" by Robert W. Elliot. You can purchase it through AbbyBooks http://www.cornellpubs.com/ . They also carry reprints of just about all the Lefever catalogs. You can order directly on their website. Abby is a very good person to deal with.

The Lefever forum is at: http://lefeverforum.informe.com/index.php

Auction Arms and GunBroker always have a few listings for the book. Search under Lefever. Does "Guns of Lasting Fame have different material or is "Uncle Dan" an updated expansion inclusive of material in that book?

Get the latest one. If you have Uncle Dan Lefever, Master Gunmaker, you only need Guns of Lasting fame, if you want it as a collector item. The last has all the first one has ++, & all those lovely colored pictures.

I should get "Guns of Lasting Fame" because it has all of Uncle Dan Lefever..." plus more. Please confirm. They both seem to be written by Elliott and published in 2001.

Sidebar question: Is it tuff to get the sideplates off a latterday Lefever with all the action bits in the frame? Any pointers, pitfalls? Wood damage a likely possibility from shrinkage x-grain or plates varnished into mortise? I'm one of those distinguished and lucky tinkers who can move the hinge bearing plug but have never had the nerve to monkey otherwise just to have a looksee. The New Lefever Design Committee has got me curious but I ain't gonnna break it just out of curiosity. Wish Bob Elliott had some clearer illustrations/photos of the main show. Most of the patent drwgs. appear related to cocking and ejector mech.

Shoot-N-Release;
"Lefever, Guns of Lasting Fame" was the first book, Published by Robert (Bob) Elliot, copyrighted 1986.
"Uncle Dan Lefever, Master Gunmaker" is the upgraded one, also published by Bob Elliot, 2001. This latter one is the one to get.
Rabbit;
Other than buggering a screw head, or the possibility of chipping long set wood there is no concern to taking the side plates off any Lefever I am aware of. Earlier version do have the sears & springs attached to the plates, but the little adjusting screws keep them contained. On these though you should let down the hammers prior to removing the plates, so the sears are not engaged.

What is the present market price of the 1986 Elliott book for those who wish to have "everything" in their collections? I know it had gotten pretty high before the new edition was printed. Has it continued to be expensive?
