Greetings,

Have a few questions for the forum and again this is just focusing on Pre-WW2.

- Does anyone have historical data on Krieghoff Neptun model guns?
- Does Krieghoff have records from Pre WW2 that they share whom the guns were made for?
- Any thoughts on whom did the engraving? Could it possibly be Schilling?
- what did they cost when new?
- was there a standard scope that Krieghoff used?
- any idea on production numbers?

Thanks!!!

Reprints of the pre-War Krieghoff catalog are available from the German Gun Collectors Association.

Highly unlikely. The Krieghoff plant in Suhl was plundered by the Russians and then demolished.

Anonymous factory engravers, I imagine, working from standard Suhl pattern books.
- what did they cost when new?
Prices listed in the catalog.
- was there a standard scope that Krieghoff used?
Not that I know of.
- any idea on production numbers?
None.

The engraving on my post War Neptun is virtually the same as yours.

"Patent drilling" ReichMark 335, "Trumpf" 360 ReichMark, "Tugend B" began at 245 RM with an popup sight for 15 RM,

Montage eines Zeiss-Zielfernrohres "Zielvier"(4x) - 170 RM

Montage eines "Anker" - Zielfernrohres, drei oder vierfache Vergrößerung - 95 RM
May have been other scope mounting systems or other scopes may fit the same.

Neptun started at 495 ReichsMark and may have topped out at say 700 RM. These values probably apply to the late 1920s and 1930s. I am curious what date range you are considering. I believe the values penciled in a catalogue I have are in U.S. of A.:
Neptun - 155.00

Great information...please keep it coming. I scoured the net and found some tidbits but not amounting to too much.

Raimey, the one pictured is in 16x16 x 8x57iR. A relative has it and I will have access to it soon. It has its original Zeiss Zielvier with Montage mount. I believe it's late 20s but can confirm when I have it in my hands. It also has two initials in gold on the removable trigger hence I was hoping Krieghoss has records to determine whom it was made for.

I'd guess the ledgers are in the old Suhl jail, but that's just a guess. What specifically are you searching for besides the above? More about the modell Neptun? Does it have ejectors and what type tube steel? The original cost would be say 600 RM plus any additions so does it have a cartridge trap, horn triggerguard bow, etc.? I can list the extra cost for different tube steels if anyone fancies that.

Was it Richard or Franz Schilling you had in mind? I believe Franz Schilling was a engraving source staple for Sauer so I'd think he is out but it might be Richard Schilling. For now, my vote would be for Franz Schamberger.

Raimey,

again thanks for your input here.it does have the horn triggerguard bow and hinged cartridge trap for 4 cartridges.I'm not sure about the ejectors and I'll have to examine the piece when I see it. for the barrels, again I'll report back when I see it.

Also the costs of the tube steel would be fantastic?

Raimey,

Thanks greatly for this data. I received the drilling today. Its has been covered with dried oil for some time and stored in a closet for many years... could use a good cleaning. Here are pics before it has been cleaned.

Evidently it does have upgraded shotgun barrels (full / modified) to Röchling which I have not heard of before.

Also manufacture date of 10/29.
