James, we all know who we are, each as different as our countries because we developed differently, of different experience. I say I'm a liberal atheist although atheist is to give me space to figure what I am. Liberal I've never voted although I'm liberal in outlook. Nothing is the same as it looks.
Which circles back to Gil's reminder of behaviour. You, Newf and I are countrymen who've corresponded privately but never met, connected as adults of wide experience by an interest in doubles. Disagreement is integral to friendship. There can be no friendship where there's a fictional you or me.
Affection, trust and loyalty make civilization. We treat each other accordingly. Nancy and I Saturday night met on a Halifax street a California couple, an economist and his lawyer wife vacationing for 32 days in Atlantic Canada. We had a serious discussion about politics.
"We're both Republicans, and we're concerned about what's happening to our country," said the economist now freelance consulting. "A liberal friend really blew up on me---it was awful---when I showed him Exxon's annual report that it pays taxes." We nodded. "There's just no talking any more," he said.
"Well, we've been talking here under a street light outside a restaurant for the last half hour," I said. "We've agreed on major issues, disagreed on others, right? And put them in our respective contexts. We're liberals. Canadians talk politics as much as Americans. We don't allow it to affect friendships."
I can't speak for Doug and Jim but they're likely as different as Americans in their daily lives as you and I are as Canadians. Our common bond is talking to each other without invective. Our notions of the President and Prime Minister another aspect entirely.

At the risk of having to interact with the cabal, GLS thanks for pointing out that nasty insults were flying both ways before keith stepped into the VD. But save your efforts. I decided sometime after the food fight not to frequent the misfires in a self imposed exile because as you correctly put it, I said some nasty thing to keith that were unbecoming, and it was just getting worse. I've also got the kind personality that just feeds into these nonsensical conflicts for the sake of just tossing it back into the other guys face, which is immature and is not helped by the generally adversarial environment between Liberals and Conservatives on the Board. Time to move on so I'm out of it, and I'm sure I'm not missed, notwithstanding canvasback, who is just to nice of a guy to be otherwise. Now I only come here to look at a lost art & to see whats for sale and doing just that I have come to realize that the Misfires Forum really is not one of the central pillars of political discourse that the cabal mistakes it for. Now back to exile and the for sale forum...

That "lost art" caught my eye. You may be referring to great craftsmanship demonstrated so often here but there's another kind in your nearby Fredericton where my wife Nancy Stevens' The Liri Valley Paintings---Allied infantry casualties were greater in Italy than any campaign in Western Europe---are being exhibited at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. Lord Beaverbrook, a New Brunswicker, introduced the Commonwealth war artist program during the First World War. Two of Nancy's professors at Mount Allison University were WWII war artists Alex Colville and Lawren Harris Jr. Her university education was paid for by Canada as a child of the war dead. My father survived as a bomber pilot POW. (The father of the Republican economist referred to above fought in the US Army in France in WWI.)

This whole thread is pointed at me so just cut the crap. Keith I had to erase about a thousand words from your post to get to the real point of it. Yup, its about you. Do you really believe that the 1,078 folks who've viewed this thread all support you other than the few who've posted? Think again!...Geo Sounds like you have experience erasing words Geo.. The 1,078 folks who viewed this thread are most likely attorney's like you.....it seems like this board is covered up with them, kind of like flies on a rib roast I'd say..... The Rookhawk thread in the For Sale Section, every other poster is an attorney talking about everything from parachutes to submarines........why don't you drop a hint up there......?

After a thorough review of this thread...... I've decided that dueling is not such a bad idea. Hopefully marksmanship would surpass those participants mentioned in the initial comments.

I don't claim to be a victim. That's someone else in this thread. The point of this thread is to highlight bad behavior.
I don't care to engage in dialogue with this man or jump into his cesspool of character assassination. I want to avoid the smell of such confrontation because it goes against what I am trying to put an end to here.
And thank, you Jim for the excellent quote: "Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing."
John Stuart Mill Speech 1867
I got tired of looking on at the character assassination of King Brown and said something about it. GLS, the point of my responses to you have mostly been to highlight your hypocritical behavior. You don't wish to engage in dialouge with me because you know I'm right. I know it was not you that claimed to be a victim, but that became apparent to cragd and myself by your words. You only have yourself to blame though because you have started this thread with the goal of silencing my illumination of lies, filthy lies (yes, there's a difference), hypocrisy, and insults covered by a thin veil of faux civility... all using resume inflation to add an air of credibility. I can apply my words and actions here to the same John Stewart Mills quote Jim provided which you are now attempting to co-opt. If you go back and actually read Jim's entire post, that quote was intended to illustrate the fallacy of allowing the libtards like nca225 to advance their liberal socialist anti-gun agenda. In fact my personal opinion is that you had the ulterior motive of providing safe harbor for like-minded liberals to dock here again. Any port in a storm, eh King? Keith I had to erase about a thousand words from your post to get to the real point of it. Yup, its about you. Do you really believe that the 1,078 folks who've viewed this thread all support you other than the few who've posted? Think again!...Geo Geo Newbern, there were numerous points to my post last night. I answered canvasback on several fronts, again noted the hypocrisy of GLS, answered his concerns about atonement and forgiveness, and much much more. The fact that you felt the need to erase the bulk of it indicates to me that you see only what you want to see. Even then, I never said that all of the 1078 viewers would agree with me. Show us how you came to that brilliant conclusion, counselor. I was addressing GLS's notion that I was beating a dead horse and preaching to a very small choir. How did you miss that? I would not want you or GLS as my defense lawyer because you both ignore critical evidence. That's why you see liars as complete gentlemen with whom you'd like to share a duck blind. As I said earlier, there's no accounting for tastes.
A true sign of mental illness is any gun owner who would vote for an Anti-Gunner like Joe Biden.

Didn't have time to go through the whole tread, kinda lost interest with all the silly winy old lady "your going to get sued" and the "board is not polite" enough BS. But A) Not sure I agree with everything Keith posts (or anyone else)on the forum, but more often then then not I agree and support him here. B) Pretty sure it was posted in here somewhere "if you don't like the discussion-don't' read it !

Exactly.....aren't we all mature enough to just walk away or avert our eyes from something we don't like (or more like can't deal with).....I'd like to think at least most of us are.

The liberals are asking us to give Obama time. We agree, and think 25 to life would be Appropriate.

"There have been 1078 views of this thread to date while only maybe a dozen have posted comments." I reckon I missed your point because I was kind of worn out after reading all your other points...Geo P.S.: I'm guessing you don't like lawyers much.
