I agree with everyone else that the work is great.How did you remove the black dye? I bought one(single gun)years ago, that was dyed black and would like to find out how to remove it.

I think he recovered the case in new leather. Talent as well as more determination than most have. I had an Amish person repair several leg o mutton cases and where he had to replace parts he used the old one as a pattern. The leather color did not match perfectly but the work looked very good and should last beyond my years left.

IMO he just changed the leather to new one and maybe used the old for taking measures...

I could not do anything with the old pigskin. Too far gone and died to cover cracks. I got the the old Pigskin off with solvent on a small brush. The wool baize lining is in good shape as was the frame. The buckles are brass and buffed up nicely. I had lots of coaching from an expert leather worker friend who made me practice every piece. So far I am happy with the result. New exterior is cow leather not pigskin. After this I know why no one wants to do this. I thought it was English manufacture but friend says Spanish mid to late 1800s

Your friend is likely right about the Spanish manufacture as I have an original case (marked as Spanish made) that is identical to your finished one in every regard except having been made for a pair of 28" guns. According to its stickers/decals, the case was annually stored for the owner by Holland & Holland and even made a trip on the Edinburgh-Waverley Line - British Transport Co. - date unknown. They are neat, old cases....yours being especially nice because of your craftsmanship.
