I wondered about that, too.
The gun looks pretty old, late 19th century I guess, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is chambered for some black powder round, likely based on the British .450 Express. In Austria, the most common was the short 11.6x60R, but I am not sure for Germany.

The cartridge is described in the link as being 11.8mm(.465"), but this would likely be bore, not groove or bullet diameter.It is also described as having a straight case without shoulder. This could roughly fit 475 Nitro Express, but not enough dimensions were given to be sure.Early nitro express rifles were also avaliable in hammer guns with "Jones" underlever actions.
