eightbore,
I don't think the Pachmayer flush mount swivel will fit the barrels of a doublegun.

As I said in my post, "I don't know what to do with the front end." or some such. It's still a neat little set for not much money. I think screwing and soldering is the way to go up front. On a double shotgun, the front and the back never match as far as mounting hardware is concerned.

Just my thoughts about the barrel mount portion. But I'd not drill holes in that thin little lower rib and risk gouging the barrels with a drill point or tap. A simple base soldered on the barrels will be reversable later by simply heating and removing it and reblueing. No rib removal and replacement and re-laying ribs, etc. Besides, you'll get more soldered area than the thin line of solder joint for the lower rib. It's not such a big deal soldering on barrels.

Turkey (paper, not birds) shooters will often use epoxy or gorilla glue for gluing on sights and for securing "sleeved" chokes. Easily removed with heat. Definitely not an old world technique, but reversible and requires not much in the way of technique. Epoxy doesn't stand up to freezing temps, however.

I think that depends on the epoxy. There is a little operation here in town called 3M that you may have heard of, and one of their many products is an epoxy called 3M 2216 structural adhesive. You won't be able to get it at Wal Mart, but, your local industrial jobber can get it.
It stands up to about anything.

Best,
Ted

After the ugly experience of dropping my old 7MM into a Northern Ontario lake, I would not trust a soldered front swivel base. Screws and solder would be my choice. Not that the base on my 7MM was soldered, but I want all the security I can get.

The screws only attach to the teenie little lower rib which often have only a thin line of solder holding it. I would make a base that had a contact area on both tubes large enough to take the load.

I recall seeing a few pictures of ribs pulled loose from swivels over the years. Some were pretty ugly.

Get rid of the dogs,.......... hunt in peace and quiet and offload the whistles and bags, water, food, saliva wipes and other doggie paraphenelia then you won't need a sling or swivels......and the associated ugliness it adds........you will also see a lot more game of all types...... smile.........just an opinion......

I probably wouldn't bother going out if I didn't have all that junk and the two dogs to yell at. It's the only time I can curse at the dogs at the top of my lungs and get sympathetic looks from others (hunters) and not feel self-conscious about it. I think about all the places I've been, looking for them when they've run off. I would likely never have seen these places. And all those nice people at the veterinary clinics across the country. Some really great folks. I think of all the times I've cleaned the dog vomit out of my truck, the motels I've snuck them in and out of in the dark, the pee and poop stops along the highways of America that turned into looking for a dog... the memories are just endless. I enjoy this "special" time with them. Why would I want to stop doing it?

Egads Doug that scenario is as revolting as a new husband taking his new wife and infant baby along hunting while toting all the assorted baby essentials.----->diaper bag, diapers, formula, Gerber food, bottles, wet wipes, puke towels, toys, snacks, pacifier, car seat, snot sucker, and the list goes on. Thank God I'm single.
