Well isn't that a honey Joe? The subject of my questions is a 45,XXX gun. When would you expect G engraving would have transitioned from the G in my picture to yours. Also, a finer grade of Damascus in yours.

Your point about standardization is well taken. I should have been focusing on wall thickness more than bore because of your point alone. I'll take whatever you have to offer with regards to barrel dimensions.

Someone was nice enough to share the following with me regarding the barrel mating to the breech.

My observation was that while the difference was less than mine, the thing that stood out more was the striking of the barrels and the resulting contour of the barrels. Would the referenced EE be an example of the finer finish associated with an E relative to a G? Joe's gun would throw a wrench to that unless the significant difference lies in the manufacturing era as exampled by the engraving and barrel Damascus.
