Hi all,
Question: I am looking for ideas on how to do a barrel band swivel mount for this rifle? The barrel is a std M70 pre 64 barrel with a front sight ramp. Your ideas or existing product links would be appreciated.
Although I have been distracted from the mission of completing this rifle progress continues and am nearing the end of the in-letting.

Lynn, get a band of correct ID, cut it and profile it and solder it to the barrel. Don't silver solder it, you will have to rebluee it anyway. Or, you could cut the barrel, install the band, and weld it back together!!!!!

Thanks for your input and kind words. Nice talking to you Jim at the gunshow this morning.
My plan is to slot the top of a band the width of the front sight base and then slide it past. It will be like a 3/4 band. I have seen others this way and if it doesn't look right I will then just do something else, yet to be determined.

I also finished all the inleting today so now on to glass bedding and then I will relieve the barrel channel to float the barrel. Then all the rest, LOL smile

Thanks for keeping us updated on this project, Whitey
would have enjoyed the updates. I'd like to see some pictures
of the barrel band you make. I've got a project that needs
one and could use some ideas.

Well, since you asked I figured why not just do a little 3D CAD work so I drew up what my plan is. Below is my idea. I will make one and of course if it doesn't work or I don't like it I will just do something else.

Ric & PhysDoc,
I said I would post a pic now and then. Been awhile. Progress has been slow due to a huge project at work, family concerns, and then my own company growing. Any way here are a couple of pics.
I installed the grip cap I made and now need to fit the wood to it. You can see I also remodeled the cheek piece look quite a bit from the original that was on the pre-inlet.

The second it the forearm treatment. Its not finished yet, I may soften it abit by reducing its size but having wood to remove is always better then the other way. smile (Michael Hayes, the muzzeloader riflesmith, one time told me he had never finished shaping a gunstock less then 3 times, always a little more to remove to get that feel just right. LOL)
