Obviously you sideways guys, must not have a lot of guns or had an impressive gun room. Mine are in 4 safes, one hidden cabinet and one display cabinet. About 70 total. Jerry Jerry, Yes, it sure does look like that HORIZONTAL STORAGE BUSINESS, ESPECIALLY FOR VOLUME STORAGE, is catching on, I guess it depends on what part of the country you live in....?......And they never need to dust much either...LOL....

I turned the space under what was my side door [ there's now a breezeway attached to the house above it ]into a gun safe. Lined the walls, floor, and ceiling with plywood after I painted with waterproof paint. Also had a steel entry door with a dead bolt lock and allenhead screws into the hinge pins. I know if someone really wanted to get in they could, but because it's in the basement I don't believe anyone would take a lot of time necessary to do it. All mine are stored muzzle down on a oil soaked cloth. A 100 watt lite, heat bar, and a small rechargeable moisture collecting gismo by Remington are used to try and keep it dry. Hard to do because of the concrete block walls. About all my shotguns, SxSs, were built in the 1800s so I know all about oil soaked wood.

Gerald, sell all your safes, use the money to buy a vault door and build a vault. This will give you enough room for the rest of your life, although you may have to build more racks. Mike

I did take one end of my basement and make it into a gun room complete with reinforced concrete wall, safe door, metal reinforced ceiling and dummy wall to hide everything. To complete the deception I kept my pen name from when I lived in another state. Alarm systems are in place but any system can be defeated given knowledge of what you are up against and enough time to defeat all the precautions taken. Also not having my kids friends over constantly keeps word of mouth down as much as possible.

Doug, I can identify with that picture... 5 of my stolen guns were recovered from a meth dealer 400 miles from my home. The total take the narcs got was over 70 guns.... some buried in the dirt.
No basements in CA. I like the gun vault idea as some of my freinds have them. I could do it at my office where there is room, but not the same as at home. My next house will have one. No room left here... but maybe in my kids bedroom they don't (offically) live here anymore.
BTW I did have built in inconspicuous gun storage... until the punks who were at my sons week long party before entering the military (while I was in Scotland), broke in and stole everything.
Jerry
