Found an Arthur Hubalek rifle in a gunshop in the boonies! Amazing. Hubalek was my grandpa's cousin. Rifle is in the shop owners' private collection. Commented on the stock finish peeling, he said it went into the creek during Hurricane Irene. I refinished the stock, with something like 10 coats of tinted Tung oil. I was in Hubaleks shop when I was 14, and didn't know him from Adam, but I found a HM Pope marked barrel under his lathe, and thought that he must have been good. Arthur left my grandpa a 1932 Olds that had 8000 miles on it, and I tagged along with dad and grandpa when they went to Brooklyn to pick it up. Widow put a price of $175 on a Hubalek full dress Scheutzen, at the time, but dad sez, 32-40? Ahhh, they don't make ammo for that anymore. Bummer!
Nice forum, here! Just stumbled on it.
