In reference to a Husqvarna 12Gauge underlever with 2.5" chambers in good shape, what do you think is a safe load in a gun in great condition.It is real steel,not damascus.The barrels are shortened to about 24".The metal is not very thick at the muzzle but the slug should be able to pass through no problems. I was under the impression they were proofed at 200+ grains and 4 ounces. I was going to use a 600 grain(1.5oz)lead load with 120 grains of powder for deer and hog. Do you think this is a good load?

I also have a 16 gauge 2.5" real steel double underlever i thought of near the same load for hogs.110 grains of powder and a suitable slug will fit in the 2.5" hull,its just over most recommendations,but still way below the proofs.

"Husquvarna 12s" were made for a VERY long time in several action types, so I think we'd need a pic or much more description to judge this. Just for a start, does it have Damascus barrels? An underlever action? Is the barrel flat marked 65mm or 70mm?

And how tight are the chokes, since you are apparently wanting to use a solid ball or slug? Many of these are 'way too tightly choked for solids, IMO. Or is it possibly rifled?

The Husqvarna Model 12 shotgun is a single shot on a Rem Rolling Block receiver.

If he means a 12ga Husqvarna shotgun there are many models and even combo rifle/shotgun and rifled shotguns so we need much more info.

These shotguns were built to handle 2.5" Shot loads, even the late 1940's guns still had 2.5 chambers. These guns have been shot from 65 to 100+ years. I sure wouldn't hotrod one.

Having shot a few deer with 12ga round balls I doubt there would be any advantage to a hot loaded 1.5 oz slug out of a cyl bored sxs without sights.

I have a pair of 1940's built Husqvarna 51's and I wouldn't load over 1 oz of shot in them.

I live in California but travel quite a lot,everywhere in the states.Im using plastic hulls so far,and in a 16 or 12 Gauge 2.5" ,can fit powder,card,and slug in with plenty of room.
Very tight lockups and sound bores. You think i should only use so much powder with brass hulls?
Any info on the old SxS Husqvarnas is appreciated. They are real steel and well kept.
