Gents! I just acquired this Charles Masquelier 12 gauge. Ole girl needs a stock repair as it looks like someone did the old "I'll break my fall with the gun" trick. Anyhow, I am having trouble figuring out the year it was made as I am having trouble deciphering for sure what the cursive is. Also, I'm not sure if the mark on the flats with the star above it is another inspector's mark or not. At first I thought it was a "C" but there is another line or mark in front of what looks like the C, almost what the cursive would like like for 1957. It has the letter G with a star above on the barrels just ahead of the flats which according to the Masquelier history site is for Charlier Josef. So I don't know if that other mark on the flats is for an inspector or not. Also, am I correct in thinking that the acton would not be your typical case coloring as it has that blackish "stain" (can't think of what you call it) that makes the surrounding engraving stand out.

Yes, the crack starts at the bottom tang and goes right around the wrist of the stock to the bottom of the tang on the other side. Pretty much cracked through. I have someone in mind for the repair. Here are a couple of more pics of the engraving.

Brian, can we get a good look at the wood of the stock. I want to get a sense of how it may turn out once you have repaired the crack and refinished the stock. Know you are doing that! LOL

I feel the proofmark is an h and therefore 1929

Very similar in proofmarks to mine

Yes, I thought perhaps it was an h but I wasn't quite sure when comparing it to the chart . But 1929 certainly fits the gun.

Masquelier is a recognized name from the Belgian trade.

It is a nice gun. Find some one who can fix the break. A new stock will out price the gun.
