Thanks folks for your help. Going by the illustration above I believe I have a grade "C". Kinda nice to know.

I've sent a email to DGJ to see if they have a back issue Volume 18, issue 2. The web site shows it not available but perhaps there might be one laying around under someones coffee cup.

Thanks again folks!

Hmm36319,

Call Dewey Vicknair in PA. He may no longer be in the gun repair trade but he is wealth of information on these guns. I inherited a C grace from from great uncle and Dewey was very helpful in identifying grade and he sent me a copy of the DG article. If you can not locate a copy pm and I,ll send you a photocopy.

Mine has laminated barrels that I had refinished, choked, full and full, and I shoot it on clays.

These are very well made, solid guns and from the little research I have done H&R manufactured several thousand at most before discontinuing production by the 1890s.

Enjoy,

John

A long time ago I worked in the old H & R building in Worcester Ma. When Daryl H found out that I lived close to Worcester he told me about the A & D doubles.I have been chasing them ever since. His post of the ad gives the grades and corresponding prices. The wood on the B $200.00 grades I have seen appear to be about as good as the A $300.00. Last sumnmer at a local club shoot,we shot 10 shells thru an A grade 10 ga.Great guns Just as smooth as could be.Would love to find a A grade 12. sfq
