..................... I do agree that one of the next guns I may purchase will be a 20 bore since you can shoot clays and game and it will do whatever a 12 bore can do. And a .410 will do it all too if you're a good enough shot. But who GAF? And I know too that there are a number of NSSA shooters that use a 20 in the 12 event. BFD when the .410'ers consistently run 100 straights. When the 28gm load was mandated for international competition Perazzi went so far as to build a 20ga gun just for it. Never sold. Why? Simple as Tab A / Slot B Because the 12 is better when it countshave a day Dr.WtS

Thanks Ted, no worries!
Too bad the RGL didn't make it. I was scraping up the funds and gone gone! 1800.00 was a DEAL!

Chief Only if they shoot where you are looking. They sure are a nice handling gun, and a 3" chamber wasn't needed. Wonder if we'd still be able to buy one if Bill Ruger was still alive? Best, Ted

Probably, it was Mr. Ruger's desire. I bet the price would be substantially higher. I don't know if the stock has any cast or if they are straight. Most things can be "adjusted"! The three inch chamber might be useful for steel. An ounce and a quarter is after all, an ounce and a quarter!

And a lot of people shooting sxs doubles don't GAF that an o/u breaks more birds or is a superior design or that an auto gives them a third shot in a hunting situation. And a bird hunter doesn't GAF that a creditcard at a supermarket will put more birds in your fridge for less money than a 12 ga.

My buddy is deadly with his RGL, his definitely shoots where it's pointed. Feels like less than 6.5 lbs. to me. And yes to Chief's comment about steel, we spend some time on WPAs, for him that means 3" steel loads for pheasants. For me with my 16s it means pricey Kent TMs.

My Ruger GL weights 6 lbs 9 oz on my postal scale. Has the straight stock. And it apparently shoots where it looks.

Jay,
I would have liked to know that I could get the 12 ga RBL on the 16 ga frame. I think the source has dried up. I know they built one for a member here a year or so back, 6-12 if I recall. About right for a 12.
How is the pheasant season this year. I've had set this one out.

You might check with CSMC about that Chief, seems to me their latest catalog said both light and heavy 12s are still offered -- though likely higher priced than the intro offers.
Sorry you haven't been able to chase pheasants this season. Numbers I've seen confirm the pre-season counts -- down a lot in both MN and SD. But my springers still give me decent shooting if I put them in good cover and put in the time. This nasty spell of very cold December weather makes it a grind out there. I like double digit better than single digit temps.

But,
3. ........... how many S x Ss (new or used) have you purchased in the last 10 years? and 4. How many were 12 gauges?
For me.....
3. 11 4. 7
I believe the reason many of us don't buy new 12 ga. S x Ss is that nobody makes what we want. At least that's the case for me.
