Well Bushmaster coulda had legitimate business in there. He may be a plumber. The gunshop coulda had a stopped up sewer. Bushmaster, through no fault of his own, was obligated by the Hippoplumbic oath to relieve the suffering of the poor store owner. And then the gun peddler strong armed him.

Or he could have been delivering pizzas. Same thing. Or he might have been asking for directions. Stan you are too quick to judge.

The truth (I would not dream of misleading or otherwise obfuscating the truth from the Forum) is that I was going to the shop to pick up my Ithaca NID, about which I posted two weeks ago. That is why I had an empty gun case in my hand and a New Jersey Firearms Purchaser's Identification Card in my pocket.

The NID had arrived. But alas, I was told that the NID needed to be logged into the bound book in the order received, therefore, it was not ready for transfer.

An obvious bait and switch, and hiding behind BATFE's skirts to boot, but what could I do.

I hope the Forum understands that my only option was to buy the Batavia Leader off the rack.

Or, he coulda' been killing time while his wife was at a Drs. appointment. Yeah. I've been through all those excuses myself, too. I remember well walking into a shop while my wife was at a Drs. appointment, just killing time mind you. Saw a Ruger No. 1 on the rack. Looked like an Alex Henry forearm on it. I asked, "What caliber is that, Joe?" He replied, ".45-70", and handed it to me. When I looked at the wood in the buttstock I said, "Oh, no." Joe grinned a big ol' grin, knowing I was a sucker for pretty wood. It's in my safe now. I sold a Ruger No. 3 in the same caliber and the No.1 stayed. Good short range deer and hog gun.

You just stepped onto a long and slippery slope, Bushmaster. Be advised, the cure is worse than the ailment. Enjoy it.

Stan it is only my opinion but you might check - that Ruger #1 should count towards the family's deductible.

Yea, right....I've been so afflicted for most of my life and I ain't buyin' any excuses. I have so far, for a number of years, been successful with one 12 step program where honesty is demanded for it to work. I have absolutely no intentions of participating in a 12 step program for relief of acquiring good guns....but I ain't NOT gonna admit that I have a......problem...depending on how you look at it...maybe...but I don't miss work or beat my wife and kids so it's possible I don't have a problem!! I guess there was that guy/gal behind the counter who strongarmed you!!

You are absolutely right, Joel. I think the friend I sold it to still has it. I may try to buy it back and give it to my son. He killed his first deer with it. I think he'd appreciate it.

See how easy it is to justify buying a gun, Bushmaster ? Gets easier as you go along, too.
