Let me contact one of the guys that I sent a piece of my barrel to. He is extremely knowledgable about metallurgy and has been involved in forensic analysis of damascus artifacts. He will know whether the results from testing will provide you with worthwhile information. If good results can be had, he will know what tests need to be done and can probably suggest someone to do them.
