This is the very first double gun I've ever shot some 45 years ago. It's a fine sidelock, probably made in Suhl. Owned by my best friend who succeeded it from his father. Today I had an eye on the proof marks for the first time. Imho it is first proofed in Nov 1924, reproofed in 1958. Any other/more ideas? What does the quad standing on the edge mean…? Any comments are welcome!
Thanks and kind regards,
Gunwolf

Beautiful gun, thank you for sharing

See here

http://www.shotguns.se/html/germany_1890-1945.html

and then see here

http://www.shotguns.se/html/west_germany.html

And I would think that the quad stamp is a partial
imprint of the Ulm proof house elk antler

Would like to be aware of any other tube marks like does the term Böhler precede Antinit Stahl or some other name, or nothing? The tube effort was either sourced from the Carl Gottlieb Hänel concern with Gebhard Helmuthhauser efforts or possibly by Gebhard Helmuthhauser alone. Not sure of the Rhombus touchmark, whether it is Hänel's or someone else's. Yes it is a 1924 vintage. Anything on standing breech?

Kind Regards,

Raimey

Raimey,
sorry for cutting off the "Böhler"…! Look here:

No more marks on the standing breech, bushed firing pins.
There were marks on the barrels but no more visible….
The Rhombus mark should be interesting. The gun was marked on top of the barrels with the name of a small guntrader in the nearby city of Hameln, Lower Saxony.

Best Regards,
Wolfgang

Wolfgang,
This gun was built with 12 ga, 65mm chambers.I believe the reproof was required my the rechambering to 70mm.

Thanks Mike, I'm sure you are right!
Any idea about the Rhombus sign?

Wolfgang

Sorry that has me wondering

The other item of interest is it appears one barrel was
re-proofed in 1-58 and one in 5-58
Odd
