Some experiences in this hobby can be just plain fun and this has been one for me. There's no great financial amount involved and you have to wonder: How did the lockplates off a high end Purdey double shotgun that belonged originally to a British Earl end up in someone's junk gun parts box in Mesa,Arizona? Hey Daryl: That reminds me of the old classic car restoration advice. "Well you have the hood ornament so why don't you round up the rest of the parts and restore the car!"  Jim Thanks to all who commented here. This has been a fun thread for me. BTW: There is another set of stripped back action lockplates in this box marked J Cooper. Anyone ever hear of this maker? I suspect JABC! Jim

I once owned what some here referred to as a "Tomato Stake Boss". It had lovely back action lock plates, beautiful wood, graceful hammers, a provenience similar to Jim's, and two barrels with one inch holes cut in them by the British proof house when it failed proof.
I considered restoration but passed the Boss along to someone else who I hope makes a successful job of it. That Boss was probably the once nicest thing I will have ever owned...Geo

The link that obsessed-with-doubles posted shows a similar backaction underlever like this one. I very handsome gun indeed!
I can only imagine what the gun the locks off of the one I have once looked like and to ponder what resulted in it's being stripped to just the plates.

Jim IGC have 9 J Cooper's listed. 1 in London, 1 in Birmingham, 2 elsewhere in the UK, 2 referred to other companies and 3 in the US. Any other clues? Tim

Other than these Coopers locks reek of low end "craftsmanship" I don't have any other clues.
