Rhys, welcome. You have a beautiful old double. I wish I had found double guns at 18.

Rocketman, thanks for the info and yes at roughly 6 pound 6 ounces it wouldn't be pleasant to shoot anything to heavy through it. I was surprised to find the chambers are actually three inches long! it chews through ounce loads without a worry at vintage shoots and its nice not to worry about 2 & 1/2" shells and low pressure like with my Damascus Holloway hammer gun!

thanks RedofTx, we don't really have access to auto and pump shotguns in Australia so doubles are our only option!

Beautiful Scottish gun.
Maybe it is the photo perspective, but it seems to have an unusually long bar for a British gun. I wonder if that feature, assuming it is not a photo quirk, is an Alex Henry peculiarity.

what a ripper of a gun! You're a member of the Vintagers? Might see you there... If you get stuck with handloading issues or need any walls/bores measured, i could probably help. RG

The 2 3/4" hull in a 2 1/2" chamber pressure issue is a "red herring.". Low pressure loads in 2 3/4" hulls have been demonstrated to only slightly increase pressure in 2 1/2" chambers. Keep in mind that the short charge does not determine suitability. You must have both low pressure and light recoil. If you must shoot factory loads, find out the pressure before picking them for a steady diet. DDA

Rocketman, for the Hollway I have been using 21 gram 2&1/2" Eley's with fibre wads even though the Damascus barrels are nitro proofed for 32 grams but I prefer to stay on the safe side.
