Hey folks, I am shipping a set of 32" barrels off to Dale Edmonds today to be refinished. Any suggestions on packing? I usually do, but don't seem to have an old gun box around at the moment. Is there a preferred method or a box that anyone has found pre-made that works well?

At most shipping stores they sell the hard cardboard tubes. I have used them to ship barrels before.

That was my thought. Good to know you have used them with success. What did you use to pack them in? Just paper?

A golf supply store always have great boxes perfect for barrels.

I use a piece of 3" PVC pipe in a Priority Mail triangle box for shipping documents/blueprints. I wrap the barrels in the small bubble wrap and slide the in the pipe and pack the ends with paper.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

This is the best way to ship barrels. I like to use Schedule 40 pipe because it has much thicker walls and is less likely to bend. I also use a cheap Doskocil gun case to ship barrels. JR

Oskar, that's a great suggestion. Next go round, that's the way I'll go. This time it was a golf club mailer and lots of bubble wrap and paper.

When using the tubes I usually wrap the barrels in paper and the some of the shipping plastic bubble wrap.
I have shipped numerous Perazzi barrels to Briley like that.

Thats the best way, you can add a cap at one end and a female adapter with a threaded plug at the other and reuse it many times.Don't even have to glue it on if you don't want to.

Agree with the pipe n bubble wrap ,there n back, more expensive to ship, but better protection & peace of mind.I wouldn't ever ship bbls in a cardboard tube, even if thick.If your bbls get bent you are screwed  franc
