It'd be interesting to know what steel perazzi is using for their springs. They have to be among the most experienced in spring durability with their springs seeing more cycles in a year of competition than a pile o Purdeys would likely see in a century. I'm wondering if they have gone to some of the high shock resistant steels. I'm convinced there are better steels for a spring than simple 1095.

Perazzi springs do break, otherwise they wouldn't be selling the little kit with two hammer springs, two firing pins with springs and the tool to replace the hammer springs. They also sell complete replacement trigger assemblies for faster replacement when a spring breaks. When I shot competition skeet, I used Remington 3200, Beretta 682 and Perazzi Mirage guns, and broke springs or spring struts with all of them, and the Remingtons and Berettas had coil springs. I have made a number of gun springs from annealed spring stock from Brownells by heating red hot with a welding torch, quenching in motor oil, then tempering in a kitchen oven.

Anvils do, too. http://churchandson.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/anvil11.jpg

I think they're kinda like spare tires. If you don't carry one with you, you won't have a flat. wink
