I sent him pics of a 1920's to 30's S&W triple lock.
If it helps i could send him parts of the gun one at a time.

He is bound by the law not to work on post 1898 receivers. He can work on any other part of a modern gun.

The triple lock production didn't even start until after 1898, if my memory hasn't gone to pot along with the rest of me, around 1907.

Der Ami, You are correct that the Triple Lock (Correct name New Century or .44 Hand Ejector 1st Model) didn't start production until 1907, and was discontinued in 1915. It was replaced by the .44 HE, 2nd Model in 1915, without the 3rd lock and without the ejector shroud. The .44 3rd Model was introduced in 1926 with the ejector shroud, but without the 3rd lock, and both 2nd and 3rd models were produced until WWII.

When the Gun Control Act of 1968 was passed, any gun with a receiver or action over 70 years old (1898 or earlier) was considered an antique. Now a gun has to be 114 years old to meet the same antique standard. 1944 would be the magic number to meet the original 70 year old requirement.

If we ever get a more gun friendly House, Senate, and President, it would be nice to see legislation passed that brought the definition of antique firearm closer to the original definition. I'd probably be dreaming to think that we'll ever see the day that an M1 Garand could be shipped without an FFL though.
