Here I will show what happened with a Mauser 98 DWM in it's lifetime. Produced by DWM in the 1930, I presume. In the 1980ies it was rebuild to a low cost hunting rifle which I bought for driven hunts on wild boar (had not much money) with an old Hensoldt Vario Scope 1,5-6x42. In 2013 I made a story about a maker, who had changed from mass products to custom made Mauser rifles. I realized that it was him, who made my rifle and he was able to show me the trade book with the number my 98er. As I liked much his new rifles, especially the Stutzen, I asked him, if he can convert my Mauser to a Stutzen. He agreed and what he did can you see here: Gunwolf

Looks great but I have a question, anyone can answer.
How does a full length stock affect weight, balance, handling?
thanks,
Rob

Rob, Weight and balance are practically the same as the wood up front is very thin. Handling is considered improved as the old timers used to hold the gun or rifle near the muzzle while carrying on sling, barrel front and muzzle up. About the only potential problem lies in accuracy, which could suffer if there is undue pressure to the barrel.
With kind regards, Jani

Sehr shoen! I made a Mannlicher/stuetzen style 7 mm rifle from a FN mauser. Looked lovely, but the shots went left as the barrel heated. But the first 2 were always in 1". Decided it was too pretty to take in the woods, sold it.

Rob, as Jani said, it's no difference! Normally a Stutzen is quite short, mine has a 52 cm barrel, but with the weight of the wood it swings very well, something modern makers want to get with their "Semi-weight" barrels……..
xs hedspace: shooting is no problem, because the barrel fits in a synthetic bed and the wood doesn't touch the barrel! BTW, I love to shoot with a nice looking rifle especially on the driven wild boar hunts amongst friends.

Steve, well, not one of the old german calibers - I can't get 8x57IS in that model 25 years ago. So I took it in .308 Win. and I've never regret it! From roe over wild boar of 100 Kg to stag of 145 Kg it always made a good job and best of all, it shoots very smooth, so my wife is shooting .308 as well.
