Steve, I am so sorry. I should have restricted my remarks to the guns as I am really not knowledgeable of knife makers. Please accept my apology.

And BTW; a gunsmith who requests anonymity has had lots of experience with Magnaflux and penetrating dye testing of pattern welded barrels and believe the process to be quite useful in evaluating the integrity of the metal.
Drew, my father retired from John Deere many years ago. One of his jobs (for a fairly brief period of time--apparently reaction to chemicals involved in the process) was running a Magnaflux machine, checking the integrity of various tractor parts.

eightbore, I would like to add to my previous comments...having read the reports of last year's show, especially the comments about poor rooms and service, I was delighted to have a very nice room and the maid service was prompt and daily. The only "complaint" I have is the lack of good eating establishments, other than the steakhouse. However, there are other eateries nearby. And was there ever a wide variety of items to gaze upon.

Sam, the restaurant selection is lost on me. After a day in the show, I am in bed if I get my way. I have been out a couple of times and it was wasted money. One night, my travelling companion fell asleep at the dinner table and obviously didn't appreciate the meal set before him.

I also had a good room and good maid service this year, which made me feel better about the venue. I was only there for one day and spent a lot of it on a long work-related call, so I didn't see as many people as I would have liked to.

I am one of the agitators for a change in venue because of the service last year. I spoke to Wally's daughter who is one of the principals of the event since Wally's passing. She heard our request but can't find an affordable venue the size of the Riviera. I will say that my room was cleaned every day this year. The new pub has a better menu and greater choices of beers than the English Pub last year. Everybody at our table at the steak house got their meal this year. The coffee stand in the casino was open this year, but the service was still incredibly slow.
By going through Hotels.com I originally got an inferior room without enough room for our Lefever meeting. They did move me but for a cost. I believe they are giving preference to those who get their rooms via the hotel website. I am told there was no difference in price between the hotel website and Hotels.com.
I think the traffic on Saturday was down from last year and there is essentially no non-vender traffic on Sunday. Some dealers told me sales were up.

As a Canadian, I have never been to an international gunshow or Las Vegas and thought it would be a really great time. There is not much for really good gun show venues in Canada. I had originally thought that the SHOT Show could be attended by anyone, but reading their website it appears it is only open to gun dealers and the gun trade business? It sure would be nice to peruse first hand through the new double gun products. My question, is the Las Vegas Antique Arms and Sporting Arms show open to the public? is it one and the same venue? and is it typically frequented by the international gun makers from the SHOT show and/or dealers that sell their products?
Thanks,
Tim

Yes, the Las Vegas Antique Arms and Sporting Arms show is open to all. As for the Shot Show, I have been there twice and it is mostly Modern stuff and people selling camo or Hunting Trips. The old guns are of most interest to me. I do appreciate the custom gun and knife makers as well as the engravers who do wonderful things nowadays. Those folks were at the Antique Arms and Sporting Arms venue.
