You all do realize that these were chopper lump barrels that BRNO barely broke even on just to say they had a true sidelock...

There's a 12 ga. straight gripped ejector described as VG condition currently listed at $650 in a well-known Canadian retail shop. In other words, you're bang on He usually is. I think of gunsaholic as my sober second thought. He might not have talked me out of anything yet, but he reminds me of what I SHOULD be paying. Lol Thanks Brian.

Not a problem at all as you have returned the favour more than once on purchases that I might have been a bit "too quick" to bite at.

Not wanting to hijack this thread; but I just had a very interesting conversation with a local wood wizard: He said "Have you seen the new SKS side by sides?" They are being made in Czechoslovakia" He went on to say "They are putting beautiful case coloring on them, and guarantee it FOR LIFE!" I said "How can they do that?" He said it is traditional bone coloring, but they then give it some kind of acid bath that sets the colors. I said "Where did you see one?" He said "Well, they sent me one and I reshaped the inletting, making it fit better, then made the pitch correct, and shaped the fore end for them, and sent it back to them, so they will use that shape to make them." Yeah, he's that good. Sam Ogle, Lincoln, NE

Mike, JOC rated the Brno 7X57 sporter favourite saddle gun---I bought one new in 1950---and quality and accuracy is superb. There are no flies on the Czechs. I should think a sxs a good buy (with usual caveats).

Waffen Franconia catalogs from that period aren't particularly useful. Those put together in 1950s with oval grip stock and finer checkering were nice knockabout guns. The ones made later had less hands on finishing, "cutistic appearance" and mediocre handling qualities. Oh by the way only small fraction of their population belonged to the communist party.

Notwithstanding the usefulness of the Franconia catalogs, I think I remember finding that the German currency was X4 the US Dollar value. So the prices shown in the catalogs represent 1/4th the dollar prices at the time of the catalogs...Geo
