The 11-48 was actually the second Remington semi-auto, the Model 11 being the first. It, the Model 11, was also the first autoloading shotgun to ever be manufactured in the USA. The Model 11 was built until about 1947, I think, and the 11-48 was introduced in 1949. It was a lighter and more streamlined version of the M11.
