All;
Does anyone have experience resizing bottle corks for use as wads?
I have a bunch of used wine bottle corks that are slightly too large to work in 12 bore cartridges.
My supply of obsolete WW red wads that I use for black powder loads is running low.
I would also like to eliminate the plastic fouling that is deposited when using plastic wads with black powder.
Is there an easy way to cut these oversize corks down to the correct diameter?
What would the correct diameter be for a .730 bore?
Also, is a nitro card required when using cork wads with BP?
My typical loads are square loads with the dipper set at 1 or 1-1/8 oz. in Activ or STS hulls.
P.S.
I have a friend who works at a winery, I didn't personally drink the thousand bottles of wine...

Dry cork sands very well. Take a cheap cork screw and cut it off the handle and chuck it up in a drill, small lathe or drill press and run the cork onto it and hold a sanding block against it and sand to size.
While your at it you can knock out a bunch of bass popper bodies.
I would use straight wall(Rio, Fed. Gold Medal, Cheddite) hulls for loading fiber/cork wads. I would use a nitro card. I did know a professional hunter in Taiwan that would load his shells by pouring in the powder, ramming a large wad of crumpled news paper and then adding the shot and crimping. He killed a lot of game for the market.

Another good uses for wine corks. Slice half way through lengthwise with a razor, stick four long shank crappie hooks in one end, wrap with 8# mono line( enough to make a good fishing outfit when tied to a stick) and put in an old pill bottle.
They make a nice addition to the matches in your hunting kit. Never know when your going to come across a beaver pond teaming with big brookies on a grouse hunt.

Wine corks seem to fit perfectly in 10 ga.

Hi Bob1900 Have a hunt for one of these wad cutters the one in the picture is for making 12 bore wads it was probably part of the tools that where included in a cased shotgun. 
The only lessons in my life I truly did learn from where the ones I paid for!

The punch would have to be very , very sharp to cut a wine cork. I've tried to trim a wine cork with a knife to replace it into a partially filled bottle, and the cork does not cut evenly or easily.
