I recently purchased a 16ga that was labeled "Timner- Coblenz" on the rib although it has "Merco" on all the components (barrels, standing breech, watertable, forend iron). It does not have the usual German date code, only a serial number, 2974.I think it's from around WWI but at least before 1926 because that's when "Coblenz" became "Koblenz". I understand A.F.W. Timner was a dealer of fine arms to the royal family (Hollenzollern, sp?)led by Kaiser Wilhelm II until 1918. Can anyone help me with a date from the serial number? It's a beautiful, well -balanced gun, 29in barrels,5lbs, 14oz.,2.75 in. chambers, with extensive Britt style engraving, and many quality features. I can't find any photos of Merkels that look like this model on Guns International. Any info would be appreciated.
