Thank you, Barry and Ken. It has been an interesting journey to understand the value of decorative arts as opposed to pure function (think engineer). I seem to have always appreciated beautiful stuff without giving thought to how it was created; much like the person who accepts that IC engines run, but hasn't the foggiest notion of how. First rate, gents!!

Speaking of arabesque tesselations, this photo I took is about 5 feet of a twelve foot tall door, installed in the 1300's in the Hassan mosque in Cairo. While I was there my guide told me Ayman al-Zawahiri had studied in this Mosque, and if anybody asked me where I was from, I should say "France". My guide said I was the first american he knew of in that building since 9/11.My guide tried to dissuade me from entering, but I was not going to let a few extremists interfere with my study of the history of ornament.

F.S.P...Thanks for concern over large Plantlife in workshop! Wellington the Eng. Springer, has been keeping his eyes firmly in the direction of its waving 'Tentacales'(sp)! The Triffid-Plant' was brought into the W/shop by a friend for the 'Artists'to further the discussion with Barry L.H.. Mike Dow is an amazing person, his Talents are 'Many'.I am in awe of what he can do with a set of carving chisels, it really is worth a trip to http://www.archcarving.com .He and I posted here on gunshop.several mths ago, the adventure of stripping down his Ithica db.(I was Boloxed'.Eng,Gunmakers term for 'in the dark" but he managed to take it 'down'no buggered screws or rolled edges.I then helped himto put several bits back onto the orig stock, he then finished of the stock,(Now added to his Resume'Gunstock repairs undertaken!!!!!)He also builds'Bagpipes' several diff types. The wokmanship is really something to behold.. Barry was re-cutting theorig. engr on a pair of Gibbs .450 db barrels. I was stocking a S/L DB. and Mike was playing a 'Set' of "Pipes"..Me being English, and all that,I find the droning?,That wailing on and on....I was reminded of the year after year,of having the person weaving in and out inside the tents at Sandanona, Sorry I dont like the sound of hot air being forced from a dead goats gut & out little holes in a wooden pipe!!!! But Mike Dow does a great job building and playing them.We had quite a group of Gun enthusiasts at this "Event"Blh. has some good 'pics'(The Maharaja Duleep Singh's Purdey that had shot many times 'On the Moors' in the Highlands was 'In attendance'. BLH did some excellent lettering & numbering on 'New London Built Barrels I had Mick Kelly build for a pair of c1889 Boss Side-Lever,Perkes pat.ejectors that I'm building into a "Composed Pair". 21# apart. If you do'Cheque Out" the bagpipe site.Note the 'Exotic materials used',,Fossilized Walrus Penis Bone" Think I'll make some front sights from that!!!Crossedchisles
