Is it possible that the more drop there is in a shotgun stock the more the shotgun will recoil up and the upwards recoil while the shot is still in the barrel will make the shotgun hit where pointed (particularly at longer distances)? Light, fast shot charges in such a shotgun would force the shooter to cover up the target because the shotgun will be shooting low.
The effect of elevation through recoil forces will be diminished with higher velocity loads and thus they tend to shot flatter. I mention this because I shot a revolver in competition for many years and contrary to what one might think the heavier slower wadcutter rounds actually shoot high compared to the higher velocity lighter weight rounds for this reason (the bullet in the barrel while the handgun is recoiling).
