I WAS going to post a photograph of a semi-sidelock so that everyone here could advance their understanding of double variations...but shotgunjones, randall, and jim legg obviously know more about this subject than anyone else here at the DG BBS...unless they too are just windbags...so perhaps anyone of these three can show all of us just what a sidelock thats not a sidelock is...if they can't or wont, I think it clearly exposes them for the egotistical windbags that they truely are...I'm calling your bluff...lets show everyone what you've got... WOW! Looking back through this thread it's difficult to figure out why you're so angry at me, or anyone else. Kind of like watching screaming Leo Terrell, on Hannity & Colmes. However, I'll be happy to concede the title of NASTIEST POSTER(for no apparent reason) to you. You win, easily.

Oh yeah...what else didn't I make good on? what is that you want? I'm not going to hand over a lifetime of research work to some pompous ass bum scoop mill or some well known shark or even WNY's socially retarded double collector, so that he can give to the sharks, so they can all advance their Baker collections...I feel that if they want to continue to cheat people, I have the right to stay out of the equation...at all costs...is this thinking out of line? tell me what you want me to make good on and I will...as long as I'm not just feeding the sharks...please try to understand my position as a 30 member of New York State Gun Collectors assoc, Empire State Arms Collectors, and Iroquois Arms Collectors...the three biggest gun collectors association along the Erie Canal where Ithaca, Lefever, Syracuse, Utica, Hollenbeck, Baker, L C Smith doubles were produced...

Robert Is this tone really necessary. Jim Legg did nothing to bring this on, go back and read the posts again. I thought you had changed your misguided ways of a few years ago.

You are way out of line here, buster. Are you on drugs?

OWD - This thread was titled When is a sidelock not a sidelock??? by you. It is my sincere hope that the info below, again from the Hallowell website, might at least partially help resolve your question: Boxlock - A type of action (receiver) for a break-open gun where the lockwork is contained within a box-shaped housing. (see also: Sidelock). A boxlock is superior to a sidelock because although more metal needs to be removed from the action body, less wood needs be removed from the head of the stock---and wood is generally more vulnerable than metal. The Anson & Deeley boxlock, patented in 1875, the simplest, most reliable and most successful action design, is identified by two pins spanning the width of the action, one at the bottom rear and one slightly forward and higher, upon which the sears and hammers, respectively, rotate.
Sidelock - A type of action on a break-open gun where the lockwork (hammer, sear, mainspring etc) is mounted to the back side (inside) of a plate (or pair of plates for a double gun). A sidelock is superior to a boxlock because: 1. Less steel needs be removed from the bar of the action; the action is therefore stronger. 2. The lock plates provide a larger canvas for the engraver's art. 3. Sidelocks have generally been considered a more aesthetically pleasing form. 4. They are often made with secondary, or intercepting, safety sears. 5. Trigger pulls theoretically may be adjusted more precisely. 6. Because of all the above, most makers building a range of guns have usually reserved the sidelock action for their better grades of guns; this last being the most relevant reason why sidelocks are generally considered superior to boxlocks.
Sideplates - Decorative steel plates mounted to the sides of a boxlock break-open gun, inletted into the receiver and into the wood just behind it, to make the gun resemble a sidelock in appearance and to provide a greater area for engraving. Sideplated guns, usually, can be recognized by the lack of action pins visible in the sideplates (although some sideplated guns are built with fake pins).
In the event any of my posts on this thread were found by you to be anything but sincere, I wholeheartedly apologize. I'm reasonably familiar w/ one brand of SxS guns, Francotte, and this thread caught my eye because that name was used by one of the early 'responders'.
Always looking for small bore Francotte SxS shotguns.

Apologies to Jeff G...you are correct...But I'm not mad...I just wanted to call them on their behavior, plain and simple...re-read the post again...I was simply trying to answer a posted question when these guys jumped in with their childish words...they could have just allowed me the chance to answer..is that too much to ask? Now Jim legg wants to suggest that I'm on drugs and you have NO problem with that..Do you want me to sweet talk these guys...Last time this happened Dave Weber said STOP...I honored his stop order while Chris Shotz went around Dave's word and took his smear campaign to the telephone lines...calling my collector friends and sent my telephone number to other BBS members which started a wave af hate calls (even in the middle of the night) calling me "N* gger"...til someone tipped them off that I'm not black (probably Chris again)...then the calls started with "caffer lover" and the like...after all the damage some of the board members have done to me despite Dave's order to stop...please tell me, what level of civility do I owe them?...can't I just answer a posted question without these guys poo poo-ing my answer before I even finish...now I know you didn't know any of this stuff so maybe you could let these racist dogs defend themselves...and yes I kept a good paper trail ...just incase Dave ever wants to know who the real Chris Shotz is....oh yeah MP and JDM also played major parts...am I supposed to sweet talk these guys? ...I WAS JUST TRYING TO ANSWER A POST...can't you even concede that? Why didn't you come forward before and say "Hey Randall, can't you give the guy a chance to answer before you start completely discrediting his answer as nonsense"...do you even know who the "High Tech Burglury Gang" was? they specialized in stealing high grade gun collections all across the country...go ahead ask Chris about his secret parts supplier and good friend "Kenny"...they still sneak into an occasional show here in NYS selling blued damascus guns and the like (Steven Cobb pointed that out to me at the Syracuse Gun Show)...Really Jeff your words are noble, but you have to let these dogs defend themselves.

Maybe you're OFF your usual drugs? In any case, you're behaving like a raving lunatic again, lashing out at people who have done nothing to you. You really need some professional help.

Jim, Couldn't you just let me answer the guys question? Without discrediting the answer as nonsense before you even understood. You could have discredited my answer by private message, BUT THAT WAS NOT YOUR TACT. Now you've been called on your behavior, so choose to label me as being on different types of drugs or in need of professional help (psych), RATHER THAN JUST DELETE YOUR VICIOUS AND UNCALLED FOR POST...what's next big mouth? Do you want to call me "caffer lover" again...go ahead, keep exposing yourself...and as for "Lashing out at people who did nothing?" are you kidding? going around discrediting peoples posts without reason, you call nothing? My message was not even between you and I, it was between OWD and myself, BUT YOU JUST HAD TO PUT YOURSELF right between us, discrediting the answer BEFORE it was completed, and now eveyone is supposed to believe that you did "NOTHING"? Relax...it's no big deal...just go back and delete your vicious posts and I will do the same.

Robert, You seem to have information to share. So, share it. Try to be a Buddist. Let the stuff you don't like roll off. Life is good. Jake
