Can you get a better shot of the barrel flats with the proofmarks? From what I can see, looks to be 1904-25. I don't see chamber length, which would have been there post-1925.

Yes they're 1896 to 1904 London nitro proof marks for a 2 1/2" chamber gun. Nice looking gun to. Lagopus.....

Thank you.Its a very good gun with intercepting sears and the lock inletting is the best I have ever seen. Very good wood for a Webley Manton.

gmcs, yes looks nice, great timber!
By Webley/Manton, do you mean made by Webley for Manton?
On the first pic, just below the ejector legs, there seems to be a tint screw at the rear/breech end of the bottom rib.Is that a weep hole, or a screw, it seems like it has a slot.If a screw what's it for?, never seen a screw in that place before
cheers

I would say they are the post 1904 marks as illustrated in the 1910 Gun and its development by Greener.

Franc its a "weep" hole that's been plugged rather than left open ,not a factory original by any means .Probably have been drilled to dry out after black if the ribs had leaked.

The gun is marked Manton but is a screw grip and has patented engraved around the thumb lever as is common in other Webleys. Manton and co must have sourced the action from Birmingham. The engraving is sharp as is the checkering. The barrels may have been re blacked as they are in better shape than my photo show.
Through lugs not a best gun but in fit and finish a pretty good one.I will pull it out tonight and look at the lower rib to see what the small screw is.

I would call it about a "C" grade SLE, based on the modest engraving. That doesn't mean it can't have very decent lever work and fitting. But, it doesn't have the finish lavished on it for a higher grade. The Webley Screw-Grip is a workhorse, but was not, far as I know ever made into a best work gun. Manton's sold mostly in India, as I understand, and this would have been a very good choice for Brit colonist.

Gunman is correct it is a tiny screw about a #4 or smaller. Probably a weephole Whoever put it in actually timed the screw to be parallel to the barrels. Who the hell does that? The gun was purchased in England about 10 years ago. I had the gun stripped and cleaned and thought that the inletting was too good and maybe it had been restocked.
