Local GM has one for sale- 28" VR with std. fixed chokes- thinking about one for casual SC events- But this is an early series with the two through pins in the receiver rear, no encircling around the rolled-engraved-doggy on either side- and when you open her up and look down into the breech at lower rear of the standing breech, there are no allen screw heads visible- so this was never returned to Ilion for the recalled/refit program, right? How much of a risk am I taking, would maybe shoot 300 AA loads through it on clays in a year-??

I would like to know this also. I've heard they go forever unmodified and that they will break quick. It would be good to hear from some one knowledgeable as these unmodified guns seem to come on the market at a pretty decent price.

If the price is right buy it. Show the seller the lack of updates as a negotiating ploy. I had one which I shot 150,000 before it got the update. Never had a problem before or after the updates. I sent it back to get the wood replaced and they did the update without telling me. Pissed me off because I had just had a high shine deep reblue done by Simmons. The factory blue was half as nice so I had it reblued by Simmons again. Their blue was extremely black gloss and held up well to my sweaty gloved hands.

I would shoot the gun as is and not worry about it. But buy it at a good price. You can find 3200 with screw in Briley chokes if you look on the net in the low to mid teens. I bought one last year for 950 with trashed stocks and a full set of Briley chokes and with 4" forcing cones. Easy to swap wood with a little glass bedding to prevent cracking. I have 10-12 sets of wood. I got a call when Remington was getting ready to sell off their 3200 parts and wood from a friend. Bought enough wood to replace every stock I had a the time with a few spares.

Guys do not miss the yard sale my wife is going to have after I die. You know all that $50 wood and $100 guns I've bought over the years.

I was told by a Remington Director in those days that the re-do was to counter cowboys who snap closed the gun using one hand. Buy the gun

Damn. I thought I got all the good deals with the $300 guns I've bought and told my wife about over the years.

A late friend use to put a broom handle in a gun case and tell his wife he was going to a gun show to try to sell one of his guns in the case. If he bought a gun he would put it in the case and bring it home. Then when he opened the case his wife knew it just one of his old guns he had failed to sell. This ploy went on for years until he got caught. His wife must have checked the case when he was not watching and not said a word. When he got back home he took his "new/old" gun out of the case and was going to put it "back" in his gun room. Leaning against the door was half a dozen broom and mop handles. What I would have given to be a fly on the wall that night.

My wife may not know all about the wood because she does not care much about that stuff. She can read my log book I keep about guns bought and sold. She might not have added up the total to date but she does have clear instruction of value and how to dispose of my toys. If you have more than a couple guns you might want to leave a clear paper trail for her to follow so she and your kids get the best value out of your guns that they can. Dads guns, junk and toys are only important to dad in most cases but every family can use extra money after you are gone.

The older 3200s are really a crap shoot, and it really depends on the gun's condition and how it has been treated. If worn very much, I'd consider that it takes about $700 to get the mod done.

I have a first year 3200 and sent it to Laib's for the full upgrade. He felt that it didn't need all of the upgrades and did what he thought necessary.

I saw Laib's price list somewhere. He will do all of it or part of it. The best thing to do would be to shoot the gun until it becomes a problem.
