Thorny,
The museum doesn't have/allow patterning boards.

Why do you think this is? I'll pass along a little tip that my "using battery" and I have learned along the way-the local range gets $2 a gun to use the patterning borads on site, cleanup is expected if you make a mess. Years ago, Mr. owner quit charging me, as he told me, "doesn't seem fair to charge you anymore, you've about paid for it".

A few of my guns were about perfect at the beginning. They aren't now. Neither am I. Life does that to us, my guns, dogs and I.

Get a life. Really, I mean that in the best possible way. Life doesn't need frozen ammunition. Or, a high condition gun.
Best,
Ted

Noooo. My last piece has some exterior wear, but inside (mechano) condition is 99%. Save money, and don't feel guilty about using it. That's the "golden goose egg"!

Take a look and see what you think!
I've been trying to find a nook in the gun world, and I thought Remmies would do just fine.

Drake has had those guns on his website for over two years now, and if they were a bargain someone would have bought them. I could not imagine paying those prices for an 1889. Like anything, you can find them (maybe not in pristine condition) you just have to look. Don't be in a hurry to part with your money.

I seek out guns that have sometimes serious issues of condition but give a clue of really low mileage (rounds shot). A hundred years from now, the ability to shoot one of these guns without mechanical problems will be a real plus. Obviously, from previous experience, I know that a gun that hardly works, but, by some quirk of gunsmithing, looks good, will sell for more money. I don't care. I will still look for good guns that haven't been shot much but are a little neglected. They are the ones I can afford, but work.

Tedford! you miss-read me man!
Lowell doesn't want a high conditioned gun, from lowly places.
He'd take a lesser from friendlier climes.

Lowell: You are looking under the wrong stones. Many relative bargains exist in the world of American classics. A friend just purchased a basically new 1948 Ithaca NID 20ga Field grade for less money than a new RBL or Spanish boxlock. Think NID, you can get condition, quality and economy all in one package.

Kevin has a very nice Charlin. He is not merely a Parker collector.

Craig, I look at the classics everyday, and a nice NID would be a perfect fit.
