Actually, Ripon was said to be able to do just that. He wouldn't use the early Schultze powder because he said it was 'not as fast as No2 black'. Nobody at Schultze believed him at first, but then they ran precision tests and lo! their powder proved to have considerably longer barrel time indeed! They had to give old Ollie a special trial session at a shooting grownd after fixing the problem; he never looked back to black ever since.
