Just circling back here folks. Looks like someone soldered/welded a safety button on, there was one pretty serious dent in the barrel and a good bit of rust here and there. The gun sold for $800. Way more than I would have given in this condition. Thanks for the info! Shane

Hi Shane, I can't say as I blame you. However, as bad as it looks a dent like that can be easily lifted by a competent gunsmith. Also it can be pretty easy to make such a dent, I was handling a gun in my home office one day and banged the barrel into the corner of a steel file cabinet and made a dent just as bad. I think I paid my gunsmith $30 to lift it and he did it in about 15 minutes while I waited. Steve

Without a doubt RockDoc. But the solder manufactured safety button would cost considerably more I would guess! In general it wasn't worth $800. At $300 it might have been worth the money, but I have enough projects as it is!

Sad when people mess up a fine gun. As roc doc suggests, accidents can happen and barrels get dented. But that's no excuse for the safety weld.

Indeed. It could have been a neat one to have around. Light and nicely balanced.

The dent could have been fixed for very little money. The safety was not that big of a problem to correct, easier if solder than a blob of weld. That was a very early gun and would have needed a good evaluation before major restoration or use. The triggers while looking neat as heck are not that comfortable to use from the one I have shot a few times. Still if comfort and ease of use was the goal most people would shoot automatics and recoil absorbing camo stocks which while easier on old bones would detract from the spirit of a good double shoot.
