I suspect this is a long shot, but I wanted to write in hopes that someone can help with identification of my family heirloom. I have a 12g C. Boswell that has the 126 Strand address stamped on it. It's serial number 12440. I am hoping someone might have the records of when this gun was produced and whom it was sold to. I have already heard back from Mr. Chris Batha who has stated his records do not go back this far. So far I can estimate that it is circa 1890-1898. Its a Damascus box lock likely low-mid grade. Cosmetically, its 10%, but mechanically sound (Barrels at 30 thousandths), have fired in excess of 100 rounds of modern pheasant loads.
Thank you for your time gentlemen,
Mark

I own a matched pair of Boswell boxlocks, 13,459 & 14,412 ( the second gun was made to match the first by Boswell). They were delivered in September 1899 and 1902 respectively.
So I would suspect your gun is circa 1896-97. Even though you have thick barrels I suggest keeping your pressures below 8,000 psi to protect the action and stock. RST and B&P make great low pressure pheasant loads.
Enjoy! Dr. P

Chris Batha has the records as he bought the rights to the Boswell company. I'm sure you can google his name and come up with an e-mail address or perhaps someone here can provide it.

MarkW. I have obtained Boswell serial number information by writing to - Garfield R. Beckstead 7092 Placida Road, Cape Haze, FL 33946 (941) 697-6996
Based on the responses from his staff, available information seems to begin somewhere in the 13,000 range.

Hello Rich, Sometimes, in our eagerness to help our fellow members, we don't pay enough attention to the post we are replying to. Mark states clearly in his post he has already contacted and heard back from Mr. Batha. It happens to all of us, Best, JC P.S. Mark, welcome to The Board. jc
