A few pics, hopefully there will be more on my website, eventually...
It is a very handsome and finely crafted 30-40 rifle, and the owner says it shoots great!

Yes it is, and yes I am. Finding such a rifle or anything similar even if well worn and used would be great and I'm patient and looking around as much as possible.

I am a big fan of aperture rear sights. But I wonder what it is like to shoot that style of sight.

Most of the sporterized Krags that I've seen are pretty roughly done with not much sense of proportion. The wrist looks to be both functional and yet really attractive. I find most of the grips that I like are too long to be very useful (look at a Shiloh Sharps for a good example) or very short and rather abrupt in appearance. This one is sweet. Shellhammer knew what he was about. I think he must have been Michael's favorite or near favorite stock man. I can understand why.

BTW, I have ordered up a Krag (military configuration frown ) for Raton in 2.5 weeks so I will get to play with one on steel targets. Will they take down a ram at 500m? Not that it matters, but I will know the answer pretty soon and have some fun playing with it.

Brent

This is as nice a Krag as I've ever seen. Thanks for showing it. When you find the time, more pictures will be much appreciated.

+1 I would especially like to see the left side. Is there a cheek? And some of the details around the left side of the receiver would be interesting to me.

A 180 Partition in a 30-40 will knock down a zebra at 235 yards…I don't think the steel ram will be a problem.

It's the finest Krag sporter I've seen, and I've got to get back to work on my client's custom Krag.
No cheekpiece, grip curve is way to tight for my tastes, horn tip & cap, Niedner checkered buttplate , two folding leaf Lyman sights on the 1/4 rib; this is there last photo I have loaded on Photobucket…

Beautiful polish and rust bluing on that rifle. It is certainly as fine a Krag as there is out there anywhere.

I have no doubt it will take down a zebra. The steel rams can be surprisingly stubborn however. I don't think there is much relation between what it takes to knock them down and killing large game animals. But I have only shot them with .38 calibers and above.
