Ninepointer, I have a ticket on tonight's LottoMax with the $30 million prize, no taxes. First things first, it's a flight over to Scotland to meet with David Mckay Brown to get fitted up for a pair of bespoke 16 bores. Then a renovation to part of the house, relegating my safe to shotshell storage. Once my newly constructed gun room is finished it will be the perfect location from which to both admire and choose today's (this week's, etc) weapons. And finally, and perhaps the most fun, an expanded search criteria for old guns I may wish to acquire. But I won't be quitting my day job just yet!

The state is happy to tax you and you are happy to think your voluntary tax is a game you can and will win. After all no one buys a ticket hoping they loose. Jon, while I am under no illusions about the "voluntary tax", I will point out that I know personally three different lottery jackpot winners up here in Canada. The prizes won ranged between 3 million and 11 million and were all won between 1989 and 2003. And as was pointed out, these are non taxed lump sums up here. Not a payment a year for 20 years that then is taxed, as it is in the US.

Greg's gun is pretty tempting. If you don't lose your head over it, then this is clearly the next best option:
Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

Since we are dreaming........and If unlimited funds after a powerball win, a bloody expensive, brand new Boss SLE self-opener in 16 ga, a ~ 6lb delight. A 20 ga would likely be too light IMHO.
Socialism is almost the worst.

If you know what to look for solid double can be had for surprisingly little money. I have been seeking out modern steel actioned 0/Us. There is 20ga 5lb 10oz Beretta. I passed on 12ga 686s lusso at 6lb9oz and 12ga Winchester 6500 with Winchokes at just 6lb 11oz. All these are worthy modern game guns. The fact that these are vertical guns makes them even better.

I understand the lottery up north are tax free. Those who have to buy the southern variety are not so lucky. The purchase price is a tax in a way. They keep half and pool the rest for the winners. Those who loose only are taxed once. The winners get taxed twice but they should be semi happy to pay that tax. For the record if I win it after July 1 I will delay claiming the prize until next year. Tickets are valid for from 90 days up to one year which varies by state. Check the rules when in doubt. In between I would have a clear plan in place and be able to claim the money without my name becoming a public record and reduce the tax impact as much as possible. A few states do allow anonymous claims so you do not get hounded by endless scam artist the rest of your life. Moving to a state with out any income tax before the end of the year also reduces you tax due amount. Buying your own state is a better option to me if the lottery is a real big one. You are going to pay about 40% taxes if you are lucky, 50+% in you are not. Federal, State, City, County, Medicare taxes will add up to a major pile of money.

He is back to work, hauling cars around the country, and has pretty much nothing to show for the fact that he was a lottery winner. I thought this case was a rare state of affairs, but, it is almost the norm after a big jackpot winning. Did I mention I never play? Best, Ted

He must not have been a shotgun nut, otherwise he could have those guns that I covet.

If you want a fabulous gun that was made to be shot and not just looked at, you want a Fratelli Rizzini. http://fllirizzini.it/siti/sitoingl/photo.htmlThese boys have taken the English side lock and made it better-much better. If (when?) I win the Powerball I'm flying to Italy to order a pair of 12s for driven birds, a 16 for prairie birds and a 28/.410 two barrel set for doves. http://www.csmcspecials.com/product_p/22823.htmTheir R3 box lock, with a unique approach to intercepting safety sears, costs almost as much as their side lock. It is an engineering marvel. And it works. If you really want to spend some mula get a Hartmann and Weiss. http://www.hartmannandweiss.com/en/shotguns.phpThey are the ultimate expression of the English game gun, even though they are built on the Continent. They are so sought after by collectors that very, very few of them are ever fired. Pity. I would shoot the snot out of one if it were mine. These guns are so rare, and so sought after, I can not find any of their shotguns for sale. Last time I saw a new one I believe it was over $200k. Please let us know what you end up getting. I will gladly help you fill out the order form. Regards, Jeff P.S. Sometimes I am almost saddened by how much I know about shotguns. Almost
