It's a Maine gun, so yes, rust! Not so bad as to cause major corrosion, it just wouldn't come apart. I doubt if it's ever been apart.

Since I was going to use this 17 for the dove opener, I figured I might be able to do a little better than a sawed-off piece of dowell in the gun.
