I have sent you a PM with load data.
I find the 24 bore factory loads a bit brisk for my 4lb 13 oz gun.
Good luck.

Be sure to check the depth for the shell rim. Some older 24s were made for a thicker shell rim and so modern shells sit too deep and mostly don't go bang.
Good luck.

Come on, skeettx, tell us how...the scotch tape remedy?
My 24 ga. Halwa Sandor, Budapest, hammergun (a WW II bring back) is a delight and should perform on marsh hens come Nov. as well. With 7.5 shot it takes care of pheasants and chukars very authoriatively.
Loading your own is easy, BP has all the components and a good roll crimper, but I have to get some more load variants from the VintageProf now that I've finally replenshed my powder supply.
Where are the 32 gauges for sale now...any about? My 28 ga. shelf is getting full.

I would love to have a nice little 24ga sxs. What a great quail gun! Ballistic products sells Fiocchi ammo for it.

Any idea how long an o-ring would last in such circumstances? They never seemed to last long in chambermates.

I have a couple of 24s and a 32 ga. The nicest one is my Arrieta model 578 sidelock 24 ga. This gun was custom built for me in 1993. At the time they think this was the first one that they built or can remember building. I hounded them for many years and finally they said yes. I have used it on quail many times. The other gun is a Beretta and I can not remember if it is the 24 or 32 gauge as its is still in the box.

Not that logic applies here . . . but there's not much logic behind a 24. The standard load is lighter than the 28's 3/4 oz, and you can get 7/8 or 1 oz loads for the 28 as well. (The 24's 2 1/2" chamber is the limiting factor.) Reloading for the 28 is way easier and cheaper, due to availability of new shells, components, etc.
That being said, I had one once: Beretta OU. Nice gun, but choked very tightly, and I wanted to use it for skeet as well as grouse and woodcock. Not many guys out there with the tools to open 24ga chokes, especially on chrome-lined bores. Caused me to let it go fairly quickly. I did discover, quite by accident, that it would fire 28ga shells, although they'd slip past the ejectors.

VintageProf Do you have a shotgun with a too large rim cut? If so, what gauge? Of course, depends on the gun, but the o-ring stays way in the rear and not up front. The chamber is sealed by the expanding hull and all is well. Different guns have different rim cuts and so each gun is a challenge unto itself. I do think the scotch tape fix is an interesting and easy fix, Cedar Creek Sam, thanks for mentioning it Mike
